Susan Cossa Obituary

Susan Cossa

February 16, 1941 - September 6, 2024

Susan Blanche Cossa was born in Santa Maria, CA on February 16, 1941, to Francis and Marion Feliciano. Surrounded by family, Susan passed peacefully at home on September 6, 2024, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson 's Disease.

Susan enjoyed a happy childhood growing up in Santa Maria alongside her younger sister Carol. She attended local schools and graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1959. She continued her education at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, receiving her teaching credential in 1963. After graduation, Susan moved to Santa Clara, CA to teach in the Campbell School District until 1966, when she returned to Santa Maria and married Tony Cossa. Susan continued her teaching career at Pine Grove Elementary until she and Tony welcomed their first child, Anthony Jr. in 1968. Susan then began her second career as a homemaker, and she and Tony welcomed Ron and Marie to their growing family.

Susan happily threw herself into the care of her family, devoting her time to taking her kids to all their varied activities. Susan was her children's biggest cheerleader, and her devotion to the care of the home and family allowed Tony to focus his energy on building his business. They shared a great partnership in raising their family together.

As the children grew, Susan found more time to enjoy her own pursuits of golf with friends, travel, and volunteering at Marian Hospital. Susan's love of travel allowed her to see many beautiful places. Maui and La Quinta were counted as favorite travel spots, and she especially loved the art and architecture of Europe. Susan was a very accomplished cook. She enjoyed the art of cooking and made many amazing gourmet meals. Some of her children and grandchildren's fondest memories are of special dishes she cooked especially for them.

Susan enjoyed many pursuits. She loved learning new things and strived to live a healthy life. She was an avid reader, both for pleasure and for improvement. She appreciated a wide variety of music genres, and her love of music was something she shared with her children. Susan also took great pride in her garden, particularly her Rose Garden and her Begonia's. Her flowers continued to bring her joy in her later years.

The family is thankful to Susan's longtime caregivers, Patty, Lorna, Marissa, and Remy. Their care, concern, and devotion to Susan over the last five years made her time easier.

Susan is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Tony Cossa; her children Anthony Cossa Jr., Ron (Carol) Cossa, Marie (Giovanni) Torre; grandchildren Sara (Jake)Ferini, Ryan Cossa, Nina Torre, and Julie Torre. She is also survived by her sister, Carol (George) Hamill, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Louis de Montfort Church, 1190 E. Clark Ave., Orcutt, CA.

Her family will miss her dearly, but we are grateful she is at peace. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Susan's memory to the Feliciano, Cossa and Hamill Family Scholarship at St. Joseph High School 4120 S. Bradley Rd, Orcutt, CA 93455, or to the charity of your choice.
