Mrs. Sue Ella Higgins

ERWIN - Mrs. Sue Ella Higgins of Erwin, TN, passed away at her daughter's residence on Monday September 22nd, 2025 after a lengthy illness. She was born to the late John and Rosetta Bailey Hampton both of Erwin, TN. She was also preceded in death by four siblings, Jack Hampton, Marvin Hampton, Lewis Hampton, and Evelyn Hampton Stultz.

She married Jimmy Doyle Higgins in 1956. He was a construction Vertical and Horizontal Project Senior Superintendent, and his work often took them to Northern Virginia, the Washington DC area, and Tennessee. They returned home and settled in Erwin to continue raising their children. Sue made being a homemaker, and being a mother to their six children; Toney, Johnny, Tina, Kitt, Scottie, and Mark her life's work. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Sue was an accomplished artist, she enjoyed attending East Tennessee State University and taking art classes. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for her family. A lifelong member of Ninth Street Baptist Church. She loved her church, her church family, and most of all she loved her Lord and Savior. She had a deep and abiding faith and often said she knew when her life on earth was over she would be in her forever home in heaven.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Merl Hampton; a sister, Patricia Ann Hampton Norton; her children, Toney D Higgins, Tina Higgins Mullins, Kitt (Shelley) Higgins, and Scotty Higgins; Her grandchildren, Josh Higgins, Jessie Higgins, Ashton Higgins-Peake, Gidien Higgins, Cody Higgins, Danielle Higgins, Will Mullins, Courtney Mullins, Jody Mullins, Tara Higgins-Jackson, Chelsea Higgins-Byrd, Alex (AJ) Higgins, and Chloe Higgins; thirteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, family members and friends.
