Speedy Cardell Hopson

UNICOI - Speedy Cardell Hopson, age 92, of Unicoi, passed away on Tuesday, February 04, 2025, at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi and son of the late Jake and Hassie Peterson Hopson.
Speedy was a proud United States Air Force Veteran. During his military service he was a member of the Air Force Baseball Team. He retired from the Kingsport Press where he was a Machinist for many years. Speedy was a member of Unicoi Baptist Church.
He loved sports, especially the Lady Vols and the Detroit Tigers. Speedy coached Erwin Little League Baseball for several years when his boys were young. He loved fishing, gardening and growing beautiful flowers.
In addition to his parents, Speedy was preceded in death by his precious wife of sixty-two and a half years, Harriet Garland Hopson on February 18, 2019; daughter-in-law, Rita Hopson; seven brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his four children: David Hopson (Debra), Greg Hopson, all of Jonesborough, Carol Ann Hopson of Chattanooga, and Angie McInturff (Rick) of Unicoi; eight grandchildren: Seth Pangle (Chasidy), John Pangle, Ryan Hopson (Amanda), Josh Hopson, Luke Hopson, Erika Hopson, Jessica Bacon (Ben), and Cody McInturff; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The Hopson family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 08, 2025, at the Unicoi Funeral Home. David Hopson will officiate the 2:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in Swingle Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
