Sonya Stacy Obituary

Sonya Jean Stacy July 18, 1943- July 18, 2024

JONESBOROUGH - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sonya Stacy on July 18, 2024. Sonya Jean Stacy was a beloved mother, grandmother, community member, and friend to many in the Town of Jonesborough, TN.

Sonya was born Sonya Jean Koehler on July 18, 1943, in Terra Haute, Indiana to Florence Ruth "Jerri" Baker and Harry Louis Koehler. She had two brothers Tommas Joel Koehler and Richard Byron Ross who have since passed away. Sonya moved to Tennessee in 1951, where she attended High School and met her future husband, Ned Elliott Stacy from Johnson City, TN. They went on to have one son together, Ned Eric Stacy who currently lives in Jonesborough.

Growing up Sonya had a deep love for her family, friends, and her many artistic pursuits. As many of you may recall, Sonya was the type of person that without even trying always had a way of standing out in a crowd, whether it was for her incredible beauty, her kindhearted nature, or her mesmerizing sense of fashion.

Throughout her adulthood, Sonya showed a keen interest in Jonesborough's history and actively supported the community's growth and prosperity. She served on the historical commission board, helped organize Jonesborough parades, and worked with the town on numerous committees and local events. In addition to this, for many years, she operated an antique repair and refinishing business in a shop located behind the Ole Yellow Vic on Main Street. She later opened The Pig and Slipper in downtown Jonesborough while running a successful bed and breakfast out of her historical home.

When it came to Sonya, nothing mattered more to her than her family and friends. She absolutely loved being a mother and her son, Ned Eric was the pride and joy of her life. Once Ned went on to have children of his own Sonya took it upon herself to help care for them as if they were her own children. The legacy of Sonya's warmth will forever live on in the lives she touched.

Sonya was survived by her son, Ned Eric Stacy and three grandchildren, Kathryn Jean Eliabeth Stacy, Carolyn Rose Stacy, and Jackson August Stacy.

A family only, private ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy.
