Sonya Astaneh Obituary

JOHNSON CITY - An amazing, beautiful soul has left us. On June 2, 2023, after seven heroic months of enduring cancer, our dear Sonya passed on. She was selfless, generous, loyal, and dignified to the very end. Sonya held a Master's degree in biology and a Bachelor's in pre-med and Anthropology from ETSU. She was a faculty member at Science Hill High School. Sonya truly lived her life serving others and never met a stranger. Sonya loved to read and enjoyed teaching. Even though she didn't perform, she was a fantastic violinist and artist. To know Sonya was to love her. She left a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. Sonya was born in Canada, and she was 34 years old at the time of her passing. She was a proud mother and madly in love with her husband and two children.

She is survived by her husband Robert Calahan and her two exceptional children Luka and Brylee, her parents Katherine and Sam Astaneh and Ann Sluder. Brother Hunter Astaneh, sisters Bethany Baines, and Whitney Blevins. A very Special thank you to her Aunt Betty Astaneh, Uncle Akbar Ansari, cousins Ehsan, Ali, and Ghazel Ansari, and her dearest friend we all hold close Christa Lynn Thompson.

Farewell Sonya, you will never be forgotten. Friends and family may attend the gathering to celebrate her amazing life at Tetrick Funeral Services in Johnson City Saturday, June 10th from 4:00-6:00pm.
