Shirley Greene Obituary

Shirley Greene

January 8, 2025

LIMESTONE - Shirley Greene, 77 of Limestone-the Philadelphia community, passed Wednesday morning, January 8 at her home after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends who will miss her beyond measure. Her big smile would brighten your day.

Shirley was a graduate of Washington College Academy and was serving as a member of the Alumni Board. She did factory work for a number of years, but the most treasured job was caring for the children in her home. These adults now have all done well in life- because of her love and guidance. She loved them all. She loved to cook and do things for other people but most of all she loved being a mom and grandmother. Shirley was a lifetime member of Philadelphia Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ralph Greene; son, Anthony (LeeAnn) Greene; granddaughter, Addison Grace Greene; sisters, Margaret Reaves (Sherrell Patton), Brenda (Richard) Wilhoit, Diane (Larry) Dayton; sister-in-law, Shirley Robinson of Indiana; brother-in-law, Sidney Greene of Limestone; very special friends, Rhonda Roberts and Whitney & Zakery Marshall (whom Shirley warmly referred to as her daughter and grandchildren); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by a precious, wonderful daughter, Jennifer E Greene; her parents, Bill and Mildred Jones; sister-in-law, Mildred Jennings; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Reaves, Bob Greene and Larry Greene.

Pallbearers will include Zakery Marshall, Chris Brown, Nolan Tinker, Tim Hammer, Kevin Dayton, John Arrowood, Billy Church, and Larry Hensley.

Family will receive friends Saturday, 4-6pm at the Philadelphia Church with a service to follow. The graveside service will be Sunday at 1pm in Philadelphia Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Duncan officiating. Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.

I loved Shirley like a sister, even though I was married to her cousin Terry! I called her my Sister/Cousin! Her family has always made me feel so loved! I will miss her when we go visit, but I will always feel her love when we do! Ralph, you and Anthony take care of each! I love you all and will be thinking of you these next few days and weeks!
