Sharon Benner Obituary

Sharon Lewis Benner

October 24, 2024

JOHNSON CITY - Sharon Lewis Benner (87), of Johnson City, TN, passed away on October 24, 2024. A California native, Sharon moved to Johnson City in 1971 where she built a full life. Her family was always most important to her along with many groups of lifelong friends, including her Covenant Presbyterian Church family, dinner group, PEO ladies, and knitting group. She also created what has to be one of the longest active Christmas card mailing lists ever. All her life, she served as an active volunteer for every community she joined.

Sharon has gone on to join her husband of 62 years, David Bright Benner. She leaves behind her two daughters LaVerne Benner Castillo and husband Tim, and Eileen Benner Madden and husband Tony; four grandchildren Ruth Castillo, Clark Castillo and his wife Emily, Sean Madden, and Grace Madden; one great-grandson, Edward; her sister Elosie; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family asks that in place of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 603 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, TN 37604; or to The River, 125 West Main Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.

The Benner family will receive friends from 12 - 2 PM Saturday November 9, 2024, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with a memorial service to follow at 2 PM, and then followed by a graveside service at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Sharon was one of my favorite residents at Everlan. She was with us for a few years before transitioning to Dominion. One of the most intelligent women I´ve known.

God has gained an angel. May he wrap his arms around Sharon´s family and friends and help them through this difficult time.

Sharon, we will miss you, but you will always live in our hearts. It was a pleasure knowing you.
