JOHNSON CITY - Sarah Jane Payne, 80, of Johnson City went home to be with the Lord, Friday, September 15, 2023 in the Life Care Center of Gray. She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Leland Ford Cox and Sarah Taylor Cox. Jane attended the Salvation Army Church in Johnson City. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, gardening, cooking and truly enjoyed attending Karaoke every chance she got. Jane loved spending time with her family and friends and was very proud to have been blessed with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a two sons, Mark Stout and Jeffery Stout; a brother, Bobby Cox.
Survivors include her children, Ken Stout of Jonesborough, Kevin Payne and his wife, Becky of Johnson City and Janet Payne of Johnson City; a brother, Larry Cox and his wife, Christine of Jonesborough and her twin brother, Rev. Jack Cox and his wife, Renee of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Judy Morrow of Johnson City; a daughter-in-law, Vonda Stout of Johnson City; her grandchildren, Tina Mendez and husband, Jeremiah, Aaron Payne, Phillip Stout, Eric Stout, Bo Yelton and Vonda Morgan and husband, Brandon; her great-grandchildren, Weston Payne and Olivia Mendez; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Jane will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, September 21, 2023 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Larry Dugger and Pastor Dallas Dugger officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. In lieu of flowers the family asked that contributions be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff of Life Care Center of Gray for the wonderful care they provided.
