JOHNSON CITY - Sammy Dean Clark, age 87, passed away following a brief illness on August 9, 2023, at Franklin Woods Hospital. He was the son of Sam W. and Anne Burgess Clark.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Bradshaw Clark; his daughter, Luanne Ferguson, and her husband, Macky Ferguson; and his beloved dog, Ivy.
Sammy was a graduate of Boones Creek High School and East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Air Force as Chaplain's Assistant for four years, living in Korea, Japan, and Iceland.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, John B. and Flora Haire Clark, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He taught at Daniel Boone High School in Washinton County where he most enjoyed his position as Driver's Education Teacher. He loved to watch and participate, when able, in sports of any kind. Most importantly, he loved the Lord and was a member of the Brethren Church most of his life, joining the Baptist denomination in the later years.
Sammy was a lifelong resident of the Boones Creek Community.
Sammy will be laid to rest at Washington County Memory Gardens on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 10:00am with Pastor Steve Pate officiating.
All who plan to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:45am Saturday morning.

So sorry to hear of Sammy's passing. He has been one of my favorite acquaintances over the years as one of my patients and Lifestyles Gym buddies. Just the other day we were talking about exercises he could do to help his back symptoms. His easy smile and gentle ways will be missed.
