JOHNSON CITY - Rowena Conger Robinson Miller, age 82, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at NHC Health Care in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She was born in Jackson, Tennessee, to Louis and Virginia Robinson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Mary Virginia and Louis Jr., as well as companion Richard Hegler.
Rowena was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church where she enjoyed serving in the church library, meeting with the Koinonia Sunday School Class, and singing in the Joy Choir.
Rowena was a graduate of the 1958 class of Science Hill High School and attended East Tennessee State University where she was a member of the Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She was a 64-year member of the John Sevier-Sarah Hawkins Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as both Regent and Registrar. She was also a member of the Johnson City chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Rowena worked in the publicity departments for both WJHL-TV in Johnson City and WLS-TV in Chicago. In January of 2005, she retired from the Washington County Sheriff's Department after 17 years of service.
Rowena leaves behind her children, Robin Miller Loving, and son-in-law, Gabriel, of Knoxville, TN; Ronald Ryan Miller of Charlotte, NC; Robert Morgan Miller, and daughter-in-law, Carrie, of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, at 2:00 P.M. at Washington County Memory Gardens at 113 Memory Garden Drive, Johnson City, TN, with Reverend Gene Elliott officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Washington County Animal Shelter, 3411 N. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN.
