Rosaleen Siders Obituary
ROSALEEN ADKINS SIDERS passed away on November 3, 2024 in Portland, Oregon; less than one month from her 96th birthday. At her bedside were family members including her three children.
Rose was born in Huntington, West Virginia, to Troy and Thelma Adkins. She was the second of four daughters. Her siblings were Gertrude, Doris and Joyce. She is survived by her three loving children and their spouses; Harold Adkins (spouse, Beverly), Jeannette Shepherd (spouse, Jonathon) and Elaine Owcarz (spouse, Christian) as well as her sister, Joyce Casto. Rose was also blessed with four grandchildren (Chris, Ashley, Amanda and Emily) and several nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her former husband, Floyd Siders.
In her early years, music was an integral part of Rose's home life. She enjoyed singing with her parents and sisters. She also showed her athletic skills by playing center on her high school women's basketball team. We, her children, knew her to be an excellent artist, mastering both oil painting and watercolors. Many of her works are proudly displayed in each of our homes.
Rose attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. In 1963, she graduated from Marshall College (now a university) in Huntington, WV. She enjoyed a long, rewarding career in education, and began by teaching all grades in a one-room school in West Virginia. As a single mother in the early 1960s, she moved with her children, Harold and Jeannette, to southern California and taught middle school English in the Los Angeles City School system. During that time, she met and married Floyd M. Siders. Together, they had Rose's third child, Elaine. In 1980, the family moved to King City, California, where Rose continued to teach, homeschooling students across Monterey County. Throughout her career, she was loved and respected by peers and students alike. For Rose's final years, she relocated to Oregon to be near her youngest daughter, Elaine.
Rose will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
At her request, she chose to be cremated. Memorial services are to be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 26, at Center Point Baptist Church in West Hamlin.
