I just recently heard of his passing. I had the honor of working for this man. At the old age of 26 he hired me to open a "yard" for his company, Cumberland Materials in West TN. I learned more in the years I worked for him than anyone I've worked for to date. He was about taking care of the customer, treating employees fair, and how to play the long game. He set a stellar example of how to run a business, treat your employees fair, while never micro managing. With all the locations he owned and people he employed, he would always answer the phone, listen, and have words of wisdom. Many that I just now am coming to understand, as I myself, am 47 years old. In the world we worked in , he still is the best I've met to do it; in any field for that matter. There was a lot of sacrifice and time spent away in what we did. In the countless weeks and weekends I spent with him entertaining customers, he would always talk about the love for his children and family.
Rest In Peace

It´s been a rough day. I learned today that my former boss and mentor died a few weeks back. I just now found out. I hadn´t spoken with him much since he retired but he had called me about a year ago wanted to see if I wanted to buy his BMW (he knew I appreciated BMW´s) as he was about to trade it in. That deal didn´t work out but I had a chance to catch up for a few minutes. I had no idea that would be the last time I would speak with him. There are few people that you run across in life that truly make an impact on you. This man gave me a chance at a sales job in an industry I knew nothing about. As I learned the business, he gave me more responsibilities. He gave me the freedom to run work the way I saw fit. After a few years, he then trusted me with the capital and resources to open up a new location in Memphis. He taught me the ins and outs of running a business. (Well, more like tossed me the keys and said go make it happen! LOL) He had faith in my abilities. "If sales are good, nothing else matters. If sales are bad, nothing else matters." That was his saying. No truer words to live by. He was a good boss and mentor but, most importantly, he was a great friend. RIP Rondy Hodges.

Rondy was one of the dearest friends anyone could ever have. We grew up together, thru New Bethel Church and Mary Hughes School. He was one of the kindest, sweetest, most generous and most loyal friend I have ever known. In spite of all of his physical ailments, he never complained. I will forever cherish reconnecting our friendship after he returned from Nashville. I´ll miss our conversations ! Until we meet again, precious friend . I was truly blessed to call you my friend.
