Roland Oligny Obituary

Roland Charles Oligny passed away on August 16th, 2023. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. He was born in Hudson Falls, NY in 1938, to Elie and Clara Oligny. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1956, and married Marianne Lawler of Glens Falls, NY soon thereafter.

Roland's professional careers were varied. He began as a printer for a local newspaper and then worked for the Albany Times Union until 1977, when he moved to Mobile, AL. In Mobile, he entered the home building profession, and then he earned an RN nursing degree. He moved in 1988, to Johnson City, where he and Marianne worked as RN nurses in the critical and intensive care units. He retired from JCMC in 2000.

Roland had a love for many outdoor activities, including fishing, skiing, camping, canoeing, and stargazing. He was a skilled carpenter, making numerous pieces of fine furniture. Roland had a unique ability to improve the engineering for most any product, making many common items much more efficient and functional. He also had a fond interest in building his family's genealogy, which took him numerous years to compile.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marianne, and his four children and their spouses/families. Jean Oligny-Warrow (Tim Warrow), Michael Oligny (Sheryl), Karen Bean (Jim) and Andrew Oligny (Stacie). He had twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was active in numerous ministries, including being a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.

The family will also receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM, Monday, August 21, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Funeral Mass following at 1:00 PM, with Father Dustin Collins officiating.

So sorry for your loss. We haven't seen all the family members on our Oligny side of the family in a while; but have some very nice memories of Uncle Roland. Praying that God gives family & friends peace and comfort and surrounds them with His love.
