Chief Roger Alfred Teinert April 12, 1948 - July 29, 2024 JONESBOROUGH - Chief Roger Alfred Teinert, age 76 of Jonesborough, Tennessee passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2024, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in Littlefield, Texas on April 12, 1948, and was raised in Independence, Missouri. He attended Messiah Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Van Horn High School in 1966. Roger will be remembered for his many humorous stories and jokes.
After graduating from High School Roger went to the United States Marine Corps. On August 30, 1966, and served for four years. He went to numerous jet mechanic schools with the Marine Corps. He attended Steed College in Johnson City, Tennessee after being honorably discharged. Roger also went to Northeast State University, formerly known as Blountville Community College where he majored in business administration. Roger retired from the Johnson City Fire Department, where he obtained the title of Chief of Operational Division Services after (1972-2008) 36 years of dedicated service.
Roger had numerous clubs he attended including being a member of the George Carter Train Museum, where he started the train shows at the minidome in Johnson City, Tennessee for eight years. Up until his death he was and remained a valuable member of the board of directors for the George Carter Train Museum. He also was a member of the Jonesborough Genealogical Society in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Juanita Teinert, and sister, Linda K. (Teinert) (Ron) Hammer.
Roger leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of almost 56 years, Janice (Murphy) Teinert, daughter, Tina Michelle (Teinert) (Rod) Parsons, sister, Debe (Teinert) (Bill) Hodges, as well as numerous cousins and other relatives from Texas and Johnson City, Tennessee.
Active Pall bearers will be Larry Norris, John Carter, Fred Alsop, Stanley Daniels, Paul Greene, Paul Souder, Mike Oliver, and Sam McLain. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rod Parsons, Earl Wyatt, Cody Skeen, Andy Hicks, Sr., Andy Hick, Jr., Eddie Owens, Andrew Hicks, Jesse Kettle, Angus Albertson (Gator), and Bill Hodges.
The family would like to offer a special "Thank You" to the staff at James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center, and the members of the Johnson City Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fireman's $10.00 club, the Marine Corps Toys for Tots fund, or the George Carter Train Museum.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 pm with Lay Minister, Angus Albertson (Gator) officiating. Everyone is welcome to meet at Morris-Baker Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 1:30pm for a procession to Mountain Home National Cemetery for a 2:00 pm graveside service with military honors.
