Roberta Bain Obituary

Roberta Ornduff Bain

April 23, 1941 -

October 29, 2024

Roberta Ornduff Bain, daughter of the late Herchel Elwood Ornduff and DeBrayda Mae Smith, was born April 23, 1941, in Elizabethton, Tennessee. She was a member of First Christian Church and graduated from Elizabethton High School before attending ETSU.

After marrying, Mrs. Bain and her family lived in Charlotte, NC before eventually moving to Spartanburg where she was a founding member of Westview Christian Church. For many years she was a Sunday School teacher and taught Children's Church and VBS. She volunteered for over a decade at the Charles Lea Center working in their horticulture department. At various times Mrs. Bain participated in the Christian Women's Club and the Garden Club. She also helped those in need through church endeavors that assisted with housing repairs and renovations. She enjoyed creating floral arrangements, art/craft projects, decorating the church throughout the year, attending the many sporting events in which her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren competed over the years, as well as just spending time with her family.

Mrs. Bain passed away at home on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at age 83. The family would like to thank the incredible people with Crescent Hospice (Terry C, Katie W., Tara W., Melissa H., Reneather F. and Melissa K.) who helped take such wonderful care of her the last several years.

Surviving her are her brother, Herchel Elwood Ornduff, Jr. of Bluff City, TN; her five children: Donald Ray Bain, Jr. (Gayle) and Robert Timothy Bain (Tina) of Spartanburg, SC, Michael Allen Bain (Angela) of Bluff City, TN, Beverly Carruth (Steven) of Spartanburg, SC and Alisha Parks (Garry) of Irmo, SC; ten grandchildren: Jessica, Chris, Katelind, Chris, Robert, Tiffany, Garrison, Trevor, Annabel and Connor; three step-grandchildren: David, Gabriela and Rebekah; fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Donald Ray Bain, Sr.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 3, from 2:00-2:45 pm, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street in Spartanburg, SC. The funeral service will be officiated by Rev Dr. David Wilson and Rev Kerry Crum beginning at 3PM. The graveside service will take place on Monday, November 4, at 10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Westview Christian Church, 2093 Old Reidville Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at https://stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st.jude.html
