Dr. Robert G. Rowe, Jr., D.D.S. August 2, 2024
JOHNSON CITY - Dr. Robert G. Rowe, Jr., D.D.S., Johnson City, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 2, 2024, at NHC HealthCare.
Dr. Rowe was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Robert Gross Rowe, Sr. and Lockie Hammett Rowe.
Dr. Rowe was a 1948 graduate of Science Hill High School where he played on the SHHS 1947 State Championship Baseball Team, a 1952 graduate of East Tennessee State College where he was Student Body President and his late wife Peggy was Student Body Secretary, then received his Doctorate from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis in 1955.
Dr. Rowe owned his own Dental practice in Johnson City where he served his community for over fifty years.
He was a member of First Christian Church and the former Johnson City Civitan Club, where helped to bring Bob Barker to Johnson City in 1978 as a fund raiser for the Civitan Club and went on to promote the "Bob Barker Fun and Games Show" for several years afterward.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Rowe was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Bright Rowe, in 2023, a son, Samuel Eric Rowe, in 2005, and his two sisters, Elizabeth Rowe Ponder and Dorothy Rowe McKamey.
Dr. Rowe is survived by four children, Robert Gross Rowe, III, Nebo, NC, Vickie Rowe Coleman and husband Tom, Townsend, David Lee Rowe and wife Cheryl, Elizabethton, and Lisa Kathryn Rowe, Johnson City; nine grandchildren, Kara Rowe, Key West, FL, Charity Constant, Clearwater, FL, Tommy Coleman and wife Kayla, Macon, GA, Jacob Coleman, Robertsdale, AL, Ashleigh Mundle and husband Kevin, Dublin, GA, Mandi Rowe, Jonesborough, Cody Rowe and wife Stephanie, Chicago, IL, Ava Elizabeth Lyons, Johnson City, and Uriah Standish, Asheville, NC; eleven great-grandchildren, Jaxon, N.J., Robbie, Devon, Stevie, Silas, Abigail, Gabriel, Colin, Simon, and Edwin ; two great-great-grandchildren, Jinora and Amour; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and loved ones Peggy Rowe and Brigham Lyons.
Special thanks to Ramona and Nancy at Abundant Christian Living Center, Vanessa Mowell, Shannon, and the Station 2 staff at NHC for their loving care of Peggy and Robert over the past several years.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. -1:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home
The funeral service celebrating Dr. Rowe's life will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Dr. Rowe's cousin, Rev. Paul Blair, Pastoral Minister of First Baptist Church, LaGrange, GA, officiating.
The graveside committal service will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park at 2:00 P.M. Pallbearers will be Bobby Rowe, Tom Coleman, Mandi Rowe, Paul Blair, David Herr, Brian Ponder, Mark Ponder and Michael McKamey.
Donations may be made in honor of Bob to FRIENDS Down Syndrome Support groups of the Tri-Cities, P.O. Box 5677, Johnson City, TN 37602, or to First Christian Church, 200 E. Mountcastle Dr., Johnson City, TN 37601.
