JOHNSON CITY - Robert "Bob" Payne, 87, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Bob lived in Greeneville, TN for the first 21 years of his life. He was the son of the late William Robert Payne and Sadie Lucille Odell. He graduated from Greeneville High School in 1954. He served in the military for two years and employment brought him to Johnson City in 1962 where he made his home and raised a family. He was a member of the Jaycees in Greeneville and Johnson City for many years. He achieved the rank of Colonel.
Bob was a member of First Christian Church, Johnson City.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Barbara J. Seaton; two daughters, Vickie J. Taylor and her husband Randy, and Annette Rhinehardt and her husband Jim; one sister, Emma Francis Susong; one granddaughter, Molly Elizabeth Rhinehardt and her fiancée Austin; two awesome great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Lewis Stone, River Jack and soon to be a great-granddaughter, Elliana Rose and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Robert "Bob" Payne will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm with founding Pastor of Calvary Church, Richard Hilton officiating. An entombment service will be conducted at Washington County Memory Gardens in the Mausoleum Chapel at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Active pallbearers will be Randy Taylor, Jim Rhinehardt, Austin Green, Mickey Lowery, Lawrence Beryl Wilhoit and Joe Susong. The Veterans Honor Guard DAV #39 will accord military honors. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 pm Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the local Alzheimer's Association, 2319 Browns Mill Road, Suite D6, Johnson City TN 37604.
