Robert Cox Obituary

Robert L. Cox

October 22, 1942 -

February 13, 2025

Robert L. Cox, affectionately known as Bob, Bobby, Dad, and Pop Pop, entered eternity early Thursday morning. Born on October 22, 1942, in Johnson City, TN, Bob was a proud Tennessee Volunteer fan, holding season tickets for over 30 years. Though he lived in South Carolina for much of his life, his heart remained in Tennessee. After retiring as a chemical engineer from Carolina Eastman, Bob pursued his love for history and writing, becoming a columnist for the Johnson City Press. He also created Bob Cox's Yesteryear, a website chronicling his historical research, and authored several books, including works on his great-uncle, renowned fiddler Charlie Bowman.

A dedicated member of Gantt Street Baptist Church for over 30 years, Bob found joy in singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and worshiping with his church family.

Bob's greatest joy was his family. He cherished his wife of nearly 55 years, Pat, as well as his children and grandsons, Philip and Nathaniel.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Leota Cox, and his father, Robert E. Cox. He is survived by his wife, Pat Cox; son, Brandon (Kim) Cox; daughter, Sherri (Eric) Vardeman; grandsons, Philip and Nathaniel Cox; and his aunt, Doris Anderson.

Bob's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, in the stories he told, and in the history he preserved.

My deepest sorrow to the family. May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, be with you through this time of grief, but sorrow of his passing, will be replaced with the knowledge of his resting in the bosom of His Lord.
I found friendship with Bo b through his Christian righteousness, and gentleman personality.
