JOHNSON CITY - Retired chemical engineer, Rifi Rose Ahmad, 60, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully in her home on January 1, 2024, following a brief illness. Rifi was born in Portland, OR, and spent most of her youth in East Tennessee. She is the daughter of the late Irshad Ahmad, MD and Dr. Jeri Dunkin of Northport, AL. She is a graduate of University High School and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tennessee. She traveled throughout the United States working on non-woven materials used in baby and adult care products. She had returned home to Johnson City to care for her father and stepmother until their deaths.
Rifi enjoyed making crafts and antiquing as well as caring for her cat, Buttons. She is survived by her mother Dr. Jeri Dunkin, brother Rick Ahmad, MD, (Sydney Bergeron) of Baton Rouge, LA, and sister Jani Lilly (Jason) of McDonough, GA. Nieces and nephews include Collin Ahmad, Jill Ahmad Marley (Noah), Shannon Ahmad, and Nicholas Lilly, Devin Lilly and Garrett Lilly. There will a private family service to be scheduled in Northport at a later date.

Rifi was one of my very early childhood friends in Springfield Oregon. While I didn´t know her for long, she left a great impression on me and I always knew she would go on to do great things. I am sorry to see she has passed but I would remember that beautiful smile anywhere. My condolences to her family.
