Reed Fauver Obituary

Reed Stuart Fauver
April 12, 1972 - November 27, 2024
Reed was born April 12, 1972 and spent his early years in Oberlin, Ohio, a small college town known for its Conservatory. At four years old he started piano lessons at the Conservatory and learned from a visiting professor, Dr. Suzuki. Reed loved the lessons and practicing even though he had to be lifted up onto the piano bench. This training enabled him to play many other instruments as well. Reed and his sister rode their bikes all over Oberlin. Oberlin held many positive memories for him.
Reed began playing tennis almost as soon as he could hold a racquet. He was a nationally ranked tennis player by the time he was twelve. During the summer following his freshman year of high school he was one of ten youth selected from the United States to be part of the first youth delegation to travel to China and play tennis.
When Reed was young he was very social. He laughed and talked throughout kindergarten "nap time", and he loved answering the phone. The only way to stop him from talking during dinner was to put "Bowling for Dollars" on the television. He loved it! In later years he came to love watching "Iron Chef" and any reruns of "Dallas".
Reed graduated from Buena High School in Sierra Vista, AZ in 1990. He played on the golf and tennis teams, and he was senior class Prom King.
He graduated from the University of Redlands in California in 1994 with degrees in English and History. He published several short stories in literary journals, and in later years he proofread and edited his mother's memoirs,.
When Reed returned to Arizona, he lived in Bisbee. He was selected to be part of the Bisbee Garden Tour for his creative and artistic landscaping in a postage stamp size backyard. Reed taught high school in several cities in Cochise County and was well liked and respected by his students. In recent years he moved back to Sierra Vista.
Like his father, Reed was a loyal Cleveland Browns fan. He knew very well how hard it is to be a Browns fan!
Reed loved cats, and rescued many over the years. He taught Kiki how to play baseball and Mojo how to walk on a leash.
Reed suffered from an illness for over twenty years. We are thankful that he is now at peace and out of pain.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stuart Fauver, and he is survived by his mother, Gloria Roka (Sierra Vista, AZ/gloria.roka @gmail.com), his sisters, Pier Fauver (Hereford, AZ/ [email protected]) and Thea Guilfoyle (Independence, OH/[email protected]), and extended family in Ohio, Colorado, Texas and Michigan. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Family services will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to Border Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 3865, Sierra Vista, AZ 85636 or Tombstone Small Animal (No Kill) Shelter, 1037 S Landin Park Way, Tombstone, AZ 85638.

I knew Reed since he was a little boy in Oberlin. He was my best friend's son, and so I knew of him from letters and later emails that I would receive from his mother, after they moved to Arizona. Reed was a kind, generous, and creative person. I remember reading a short story he once wrote about riding his bike around Oberlin with his sister. He was an excellent tennis player, he loved animals, and he was a source of comfort to his mother when she was critically ill, staying by her side throughout her hospital stay. Reed will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

I had the honor of working with Reed for over 10 years. He was by far, the best English teacher Douglas CAS has ever had. We were friends and I am heart broken that he is gone. Rest in peace my friend and may your family find comfort in knowing you were deeply loved by your students and coworkers

I was one of his students that he had last year. I would have to say he was one of the most loved teachers at my school. Whenever I was having a rough time or had issues going on, he would talk to me about it and help me find ways to move through those issues. It's sad to see that he is gone but may he rest in peace. My condolences to your family, he was an amazing man and a great teacher.

I worked with Reed in Douglas, he was an extremely intelligent person and always had so much knowledge to share with all who crossed his path. I had so many conversations with him that made me feel like I had learned so much in so little time. He was kind and honest. My condolences to his family and friends.
