VILAS, NC - Preacher Ray Greene, age 83 of 505 Clark Swift Rd, Vilas, NC, went home to meet his Master on August 21, 2025. He was born November 3, 1941 in Carter County, TN, to the late Luther B. and Dorothy C. Green.

Ray was a graduate of Hampton High School and a proud member of the 1960 championship team. He was also a proud U.S. Army veteran and served in the Cuban Crisis. Preacher Ray was a member of the Sugar Grove Quaret, for over 50 years. He answered the call to preach the gospel in March of 1972 and faithfully served the Lord for 53 years. He was the former pastor of 5 churches with the latest being Willow Valley Baptist Church from March 1977 until January 2025 totaling 48 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil B. Greene, mother and father in law, Phillip and Doris Potter; brothers and sisters in law, Helen Greene, Truman and Edith Potter, Bud and Ruth Potter, Paul and Elouise Fletcher, Jesse Cable, Ronald and Roetta Harmon, Bill and Montine Clawson, and Jim Baker.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanette of the home; two daughters, Karen Pope and husband Ernie, Becky Swift and husband Tony of Vilas, NC; two grandsons, Jordan Pope of Vilas, Tanner Swift and wife Macey of Councill Bluffs, IA; one sister, Ruth Baker of Bristol, TN; two brothers, Bill Green and wife Wanda of Front Royal, VA, Larry Green and Alice of Chattanooga, TN; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Cable of Butler, TN, Norma Green of Sugar Grove, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Willow Valley Missionary Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Willow Valley Missionary Baptist Church with Preachers Derick Wilson, Andy Watson, Leonard Fletcher, and Harold Bennett officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow at Willow Valley Church Cemetery with Preachers Derick Wilson and Eric Cornett officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 130 of Boone. Pallbearers will be Mark Hagaman, Tommy Greer, Brandon Greer, Justin Greer, Jordan Pope, Tanner Swift, Tristan Clawson, and Phillip Clawson. Honorary pallbearers are Perry Isaacs, Steve Isaacs, Joe Clawson, and Cameron Clawson.

At other times, friends and family may visit the home, 505 Clark Swift Rd, Vilas, NC 28692.

The family would like to thank the staff of Amorem Hospice for their compassionate care and Billy Norris for the many visits.
