UNICOI - Ray Davis, age 85, of Unicoi, left his earthly home to enter his heavenly home on Thursday, September 14, 2023, where he was united with the love of his life, Goldie. He was born on July 20, 1938, to the late Ed and Martha Davis. Ray lived most of his life in Unicoi County.
He was a member and Deacon of Limestone Cove Baptist Church. Ray worked for many years with the Erwin Rescue Squad and later became the founder of the Unaka Mountain Search and Rescue Team which he was very proud of.
In 1980 Ray started his career with Snap-On-Tools in Elizabethton until his retirement in 1998. After retiring from Snap-On-Tools he worked for the Unicoi County Sheriff's Department until 2014.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Goldie Chambers Davis; son, Johnny Ray Davis; granddaughter, Christy Davis.
Those left to cherish his memory, is his son, Jimmy Davis of Unicoi; his two daughters: Janie Davis and Julie White, both of Erwin; grandsons: Christopher Davis (Cynthia) of Jonesborough and Joshua White of Unicoi; great grandson, Zachery Davis of Jonesborough; brother, Warren Davis of Unicoi; sister, Pauline Davis of Erwin; special friends: Henry Hampton, Kevin Proffitt, Robert and Betty Corrieau; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Davis family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Bob Campbell will officiate the 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Music will be provided by Janet Morrow. Interment will follow in the Davis-Gouge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry Hampton, Christopher Davis, Jeff Lewis, Dean Hollifield, Josh White and Kelvin Thomas.

Mr. Davis was a wonderful man. My Dad rented from him years ago and he was an incredibly great man as was Goldie. I am incredibly sorry for his family's loss but also understand the peace of no longer watching him suffer. Praying for his family during this time.
