April 28, 2025

Phyllis Monroe Haulsee, born April 29, 1935, in Kingsport, Tennessee entered her eternal home on April 28, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Clyde and Offa Monroe.

Phyllis was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. She was a walking testimony and spoke of her love for her Savior until her final day.

A registered nurse, Phyllis practiced for 50 years. She dedicated her life to her work and loved working with veterans at the VA Mountain Home in Johnson City. She had a goal to complete her bachelor's degree in nursing and successfully obtained her degree at the age of 60. She also served at Holston Valley Hospital and Appalachian Christian Village.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Donald "Pete" Haulsee, four brothers Clyde "Junior" Monroe, Godfrey "Curly" Monroe, Earl Monroe and Gerald Monroe.

Phyllis is survived by two sons and one daughter: Mike Haulsee (Marcia), Becky Haulsee Bradley (Chuck), Scott Haulsee (Kristi) and three grandchildren Erika Bradley Strassberg (Kory), JC Bradley and Brent Shipp, and one great granddaughter Breannah.

The funeral service for Phyllis will be conducted Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. from the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City with Pastor Matthew Korrell, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The graveside committal service will be held Monday, May 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be chosen from friends and family. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Phyllis was a great friend. And neighbor. I went to visit her while she was in the nursing home along with her neighbor Jewel Shipley who passed before Phyllis. Phyllis was beautiful inside and out and she will be missed by many.
