Phyllis Crow Morgan Obituary

Phyllis Frances Leatherbury Crow Morgan

September 15, 1950 -

May 21, 2025

JOHNSON CITY - Phyllis Frances Leatherbury Crow Morgan, age 74, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Phyllis was a true Southern Belle, who enjoyed life, family, and friends.

Phyllis was born on September 15, 1950, along with her twin brother, in New Orleans, Louisiana to her parents Lewis and Anita Leatherbury of Lacombe, Louisiana.

She attended Bayou Lacombe Junior High School, then went to Slidell High School in Slidell, Louisiana until graduation. Phyllis and Philip would then attend the University of Southwestern Louisiana for one and a half years together. Phyllis then transferred to Louisiana State University, where she would graduate in December of 1971.

Phyllis would teach elementary classes for 10 years before becoming a Reading Consultant for the State Department of Education, eventually moving to the position of Curriculum Specialist. After 4 years, she became the Principal of Carolyn Park Middle School, then she took the position of Supervisor of Instruction for St. Tammany Parish Schools. Upon her retirement, Phyllis worked as a Tutor for the Mercy Learning Center.

Phyllis was first married to Johnny C. Crow, of Slidell, from 1972 – 1993. They had two children, Sarah K. Crow of Johnson City, Tennessee and Philip D. Crow of Metairie, Louisiana. Phyllis moved to the Mandeville/Madisonville area and married Michael M. Morgan, from 1995 – 2019, until his passing. She then decided to move to Johnson City, Tennessee to be near her daughter and grandson.

She loved to entertain and enjoyed the company of friends in her home. She had a passion for pottery and making hand-built ceramics, flower arranging, and gardening. Phyllis was a member of garden clubs and Master Gardeners. She found joy in spending time with people who, like herself, "were good with a shovel in their hands."

Phyllis was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

In addition to her children, Phyllis is survived by: her grandsons, Evan Crow of Johnson City, Tennessee, Jackson Honeycutt of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Alan Johnny Crow of Metairie, Louisiana; her daughters-in-law, Nancy Wells Crow and Jennifer Crow-Nolte; her stepsons, Michael Morgan Jr., Thomas S. Morgan, Tracy Morgan, and Danny Morgan; her brothers and sisters, Lillian Williams of Slidell, Louisiana, Maurice Leatherbury of Boerne, Texas, Rosalie Statham of Covington, Louisiana, and Philip Leatherbury of Fleming Island, Florida; as well as her special, dearly loved nieces and nephews.

A very special "thank you" to all the doctors and nurses that cared for her including: Dr. Jaishankar, Dr. Alexander, and Dr. Laney for their excellent care, compassion, and understanding during Phyllis' illness.

A visitation of friends is scheduled from 3:00 pm till 5:00 pm on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Johnson City.

A Celebration of Phyllis' Life will begin immediately following the visitation at 5:00 pm. Rev. Ginger Isom will be officiating the service.

Phyllis was a Master Gardener and a wonderful friend to all at Carver Park and the Master Gardener organization in Northeast Tennessee. Phyllis worked diligently on the Carver Park Children's program - the Jr. Gees, which met after school and during the Summer Camp. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to this program. Please make checks payable to the William Melvin Steven's Scholarship Fund and Mail to Brenda McKinnis at 106 Bent Oak Drive, Johnson City, TN 37604 or Nancy Shilling, 1904 Millbrook Drive, Johnson City, TN, 37604.

She was kind, generous, talented, encouraging, smart, loving, faithful friend of mine. She had so many talents and accomplished alot. She loved her family deeply. I will miss not talking to her, but God sure got a beautiful creative angel now.
