Peter Calvert Obituary

Peter William Calvert

November 20, 1938 -

December 10, 2024

Peter William Calvert passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024 in Knoxville, TN. He was born to parents William and Elsie Calvert on November 20, 1938, in Hartlepool, England. Peter's loving wife, Pamela Ruth Calvert, passed away in March 2021.

Peter and Pam met at a Saturday night dance in Hartlepool, England. Dancing quickly became their favorite date night activity. Peter served in the Royal Air Force while Pam studied nursing. When Pam accepted a position as a governess in the United States, Peter followed her a year later, traveling on the USS United States, the largest and fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Shortly thereafter, Peter and Pam were married in Chicago in 1963. Throughout their 58 years of marriage, they never stopped dancing.

After moving to the United States, Peter found success as a sales manager for national companies. His quick, lively humor, cheerful charm, strong work ethic, and sharp intellect won over clients nationwide leading to General Manager roles at several well-known companies.

Peter and Pam moved several times throughout his career before settling in Johnson City, TN, with their four children: Miles Calvert (Judy) of Jacksonville, FL; Tracey Schaefer (Brian) of Franklin, TN; Philip Calvert (Lori) of Knoxville, TN; and Ashley Calvert (Susan) of Knoxville, TN. Peter loved being Grandpa to his four grandchildren: Hayley Pisarchuk (Steven) of Destin, FL; Garrett Wilkins of Knoxville, TN; Tyler Calvert of Jacksonville, FL; and Summer Wilkins of Birmingham, AL.

Peter will be remembered for his clever wit, "stories from the road," and unwavering love for his family. His favorite activities included walking with Pam and their beloved dog Beau, annual vacations to Hilton Head Island, reading historical fiction and biographies, and enjoying a pint of Guinness from time to time. Through his work and involvement with St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Kingsport, TN, Peter made many lifelong friends. He and Pam moved to Franklin, TN, in the late 1990s before relocating to Knoxville in 2019. Peter was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends from the many chapters of his life.

The family would like to thank the medical professionals at Arbor Terrace who graciously attended to his needs. We will be forever grateful for their care. A private service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Alzheimer's Tennessee (www.alztennessee.org).

So sorry to hear of Peter's passing. I worked for Peter at Thomas Industries back in the 80's and we enjoyed the many out-of-town HWI, Home Center and Hardware shows. I remember being at Peter and Pam's home in Johnson City, meeting the young children, and enjoying the evening. Peter was a great guy and I'm sure he will be sorely missed. My heartfelt condolences to Miles, Tracey, Philip, and Ashley.
