Patricia Looney Obituary

Patricia Ann Looney June 18, 2024

JOHNSON CITY - We lost a beautiful person, Patricia Ann Looney, age 71, of Johnson City, Tennessee on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 as she was unexpectedly called to heaven at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Greeneville, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Walter Looney and Grace Shelton Looney. After their death, she became the daughter to Harold and Jean Renfro and a sister to Lana Renfro for 50 plus years and their lives were filled with love and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sandy Hogan; and her brother, Bobby Looney.

Patricia received her Bachelor's Nursing Degree in 1979 and worked for MSHA for 35 years as a Registered Nurse at the Johnson City Medical Center and finished her career working 5 years as a School Nurse at Science Hill High School. Through the years, she trained many new nurses who became quality nurses due to her training. She was and is still regarded as the epitome of a nurse. Heaven has gained the best, and we are left only to admire and forever miss her presence.

She is survived by her brother, Buddy Looney; sister, Lana Renfro; several nieces and nephews; and her adored babies "cats".

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 2:00PM until 4:00PM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. A Private Interment will be held in Section F at Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family would like to extend their thanks to her host of friends and to Dr. Melissa Leake for all the love and care that was shown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Washington County Johnson City Animal Center, 3411 N Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.

I will always think of Pat when I remember my early days in nursing, just out of school. Pat was tough, with high expectations, and she taught me so much! She treated me with kindness and respect, and she treated her patients that way too. She also was great to find me for an opportunity to learn a new skill or experience an unusual nursing challenge. I was happy to reconnect when Pat joined me on the Johnson City School Nursing staff for a few years at the end of her career.
I will miss you, Pat! I always thought that if I had a personal medical emergency you were the one I hoped to see caring for me.

I am so very sorry and heartbroken for you, Lana. My 1st encounter with Pat was in Nsg school. She mentored me and as terrified as I was, on the second day she was my friend whom I always trusted, respected and loved. I was so grateful to work aside her years later in ICU. We shared a lot of laughs & some tears. While she was the School Nurse, she would exit to leave as I was picking up my son. We talked almost daily. I cherish the occasional bumping into one another´s shopping. Just getting to see you both would make my day. I love you both dearly. I will be praying for you. With my deepest sympathy and love.
