JOHNSON CITY - Norman L. Roberts, age 88, of Johnson City, Tennessee (Boones Creek Community) passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at his residence after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Carter County, Tennessee, a son of the late Rossie Roberts and Gladys Pate Roberts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Bob Roberts and wife Ruth.
Norman attended Cloudland High School, East Tennessee State University and graduated from Northeast State with a degree in Industrial Engineering with honors. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Kodak with 30 years of service where he worked as a Supervisor of fiber development. Prior to that he worked for Rainbow Bread Company and the United States Forestry Service.
Norman attended Boones Creek Christian Church and prior to that he was a faithful member of Boones Creek United Methodist Church where he served in numerous ministries. He was an avid Gardner, enjoyed woodworking, singing, fishing and water skiing. He loved cooking barbeque for his friends and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wanda Barker Roberts; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David L Roberts and Stephen Roberts and wife Jill; one granddaughter, Maddie Roberts; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ellen Jane Medlin and husband Leroy; one niece, Lori Rotty and husband John; one nephew, Leroy Medlin Jr. and wife Leslie; two great nieces, Courtney Medlin and Holly Rotty; one great nephew, Hunter Medlin; and one great-great nephew, Lane Cross.
Committal Service will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 11:00AM in the Monte Vista Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Ben Cole and Larry Shropshire officiating. A Private Inurnment will be held in the Chapel Mausoleum North Side Niche at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their thanks to his special caregivers Julie, Melissa, Debbie, Mary, Freeda, and Ann, as well to their church family and neighbors for all the love and care that was shown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Boones Creek Christian Church, 2684 Boones Creek Road, Johnson City, TN 37615.
