When peace like a river attendeth my way; when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say; it is well, it is well with my soul.
JOHNSON CITY - Norman Kyle Leake, age 87, of Johnson City, TN peacefully entered the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 6, 2023, after a brief stay in Franklin Woods Community Hospital.
Kyle, as he was known, was born in Talco, Texas on April 10, 1936, to Clarence and Foy Leake, where he grew up in a small farming community. In addition to his parents, Kyle is preceded in death by the love of his wife of 52 years, Patricia Sue Leake. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Kevin Lindsay of Birmingham, AL, a son and daughter-in-law, Greg, and Melissa Leake and two beloved grandsons, Grayson and Grant Leake of Johnson City, TN. Other survivors include an older brother Tom Leake of Minden, LA, one younger brother Phil Leake (wife Mary) of Talco, TX, several nieces, and many loyal friends.
Upon high school graduation, Kyle joined the US Navy where he was stationed in San Diego, CA, and Washington DC. After his service in the US Navy, Kyle and his wife moved to Elizabethton, TN. Throughout his career, Kyle was employed at a couple of Dental Laboratories in Johnson City, TN, taught at the Nave Paramedical School in Elizabethton, TN for several years before returning to the Dental Laboratory field. Kyle ended his career at the Veterans Administration of Mountain Home, TN where he worked in the Dental Services Lab. Kyle was blessed with a wonderful skill that was very unique and he was one of the best in his field. He developed not only respect from his coworkers but also deep friendships that would last his lifetime and made going to work something he looked forward to. Anyone who met Kyle knew him to always be someone who was gracious and kind, and someone who always did the right thing and someone you could count on to lend a helping hand however he could. His most important quality was his unfailing love for his Lord Jesus Christ and for his family. He did not require much to make him happy and after his 22 years from the VA, he retired to spend his time riding his horse, enjoying his family, and remaining very active in his church.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Franklin Woods Community Hospital, Johnson City Internal Medicine, the members of Grace Freewill Baptist Church, his Sunday School class, and hosts of friends who have visited and supported him during his brief illness.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Grace Freewill Baptist Church or St Jude's Hospital.
