Nancy White Obituary

Nancy Elizabeth (Laws) White

August 13, 2025

HAMPTON - Nancy Elizabeth (Laws) White, age 86, of Hampton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Nancy was born in Butler, Tennessee, and was a daughter of the late William Scott Laws and Alice (Simmons) Laws. In addition to her parents, Nancy was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Tom White in 2018; three sisters, Sallie Walunas, Jane Campbell and Mary Hooten; and three brothers, Lee E. Laws, Scottie Laws and Bruce Laws.

Nancy was a wonderful homemaker, always making her home open and inviting to her family and friends. Nancy was a lifetime member of Little Milligan Baptist Church and was a true Christian inspiration to her church and her family. She loved to make beautiful quilts and truly relished making each stitch with love. In addition to her handmade quilts, Nancy also enjoyed cooking and serving delicious homemade holiday meals to share with those she loved. She enjoyed the company of the ladies from her church, and cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to travel with her husband Tom before he passed away.

Nancy leaves behind her son, Thomas White and wife Michelle of Elizabethton; her daughter, Melissa Carr and husband Mark of Knoxville; her beloved grandchildren, Kate White of Elizabethton, Rachael Schmudde and husband John of Knoxville, Andrew White of Elizabethton, Jacob and Avery Carr both of Knoxville; a sister, Kay Moody and husband Richard of Butler; special sisters-in-law, Jane Isham, Earlene Theilacker, and Carolyn Laws; and several cousins, nieces and nephews that were all dear to her; two special friends, Myrt Laws Hodge and Lynne Renfro; and all the ladies in her Sunday school class and church.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, August 22, 2025 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Sam Icenhour officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday.

A private family graveside service will be conducted at a later date in the White Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mark Carr, Avery Carr, Jacob Carr, Andrew White, Shane Moody and Arklie Hooten. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Moody, Wally Isham, George Theilacker, Allen Matheson, Jack Slemp and the former and current employees of Fish Springs (Boat Dock) Marina, and everyone at Little Milligan Baptist Church, whose thoughts and prayers were appreciated during her illness.

The family would also like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of the 7400 Wing of the Johnson City Medical Center and their hospice staff for their excellent and compassionate care and support during Nancy's illness.

In lieu of delivering food and sending flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Little Milligan Baptist Church Building Fund, 4223 Highway 321, Butler, TN 37640, to help cover the recent construction and renovation costs.
