Nancy Miller Obituary

Nancy Hunt Miller

September 18, 1943 -

October 17, 2025

PINEY FLATS - Nancy Hunt Miller, age 82, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in her home with her family Friday, October 17, 2025, after a courageous year battling cancer. Shortly before she passed, she asked everyone to,

"Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all, if you can only remember me with tears, then do not remember me at all."

~by Laura Ingles Wilder

Nancy was born September 18, 1943, in Oklahoma City, OK to Alberta Lee Hunt and Dr. Luke Weldon Hunt. Her family moved to Austin Springs, near Johnson City, TN when she was an infant.

Nancy was a 1961 graduate of Science Hill High School and a 1965 graduate of East Tennessee State University with an undergraduate degree in elementary education. She married Billy Joe Miller on December 18th, 1965, and went on to teach 1st Grade at Boones Creek Elementary while he went off to begin his Army career. Nancy later joined Bill on his first assignment to Fort Knox, KY. Together, they raised two sons in a life devoted to family and service to our country. Nancy spent 26 years as a military spouse to Army Col. (Ret) Billy Joe Miller. She moved her family 20 times in those years and built a loving home in support of her husband wherever the Army sent them. She was a cornerstone to her boys, neighbors, and military spouses. Furthermore, her husband attributes every success, promotion, and selection for command to Nancy's unwavering support and devotion to him, his military career and their service to our nation. She was indeed the "Wind Beneath His Wings."

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Billy Miller; two sons, Mike Miller of Denver, Colorado and Scott Miller (Angie Miller) with grandchildren BreAnna and Jackson Miller of Piney Flats, TN; cousin, Janice Hunt Marshall of Johnson City, TN; brother-in-law, Edward Bowman; and nieces, Cindy Bowman and Laura Bowman (Davie Kilgore) of Boones Creek, TN; several nieces, nephews and cousins from the Miller/Brown side of her husband's family; and last but never least, her two Miniature Schnauzer's Oskar and Zoey.

Nancy is preceded in death by her sister Carol Hunt Bowman of Boones Creek, TN and her parents, Alberta and Dr Luke Hunt, of the Austin Springs community.

Nancy's family will receive friends Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Morris-Baker Funeral Home and there will be a committal service at 2:00 pm at Mountain Home Cemetery (Historic Side).

Pallbearers will be Dan Mahoney, Graham Norman, Fred Sharpe, Robbie Boy, Chris Boy, and Jon Boy. Honorary pallbearers are John C. Jones and Charles (Chuck) Jones.
