Nancy DeArmond Gentry

ERWIN - Nancy DeArmond Gentry, age 94, of Erwin, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Governor's Bend Retirement and Assisted Living. Nancy is a daughter of the late Jack and Mildred (Boyd) DeArmond. She lived most of her life in Erwin, Tennessee. Nancy was a graduate of Agnes Scott College. She was a teacher in the Unicoi County School System, where she taught Algebra for 25 years, until her retirement. Nancy served one term on the Unicoi County School Board. She was President of UCEA and a member of UCEA, TEA, and NEA. Nancy was a member of Erwin Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder and taught Sunday School, Bible School and Circle. She belonged to DAR, the Erwin Monday Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Parnassus Book Club, and Bridge clubs. Nancy enjoyed traveling and through the years, she traveled to the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, London, Scotland, Ireland, France, Brazil for a mission trip, and all throughout the United States. She enjoyed painting, knitting, playing bridge, reading, and working crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Frank Gentry, Jr.

Nancy DeArmond Gentry has left behind to cherish her memory: daughter, Mary Beth Longcrier; sons: Frank Gentry III and Jack Gentry; daughter-in-law, Karen Gentry; 7 grandchildren: Amy Longcrier (Brendan Julian), Marcus Longcrier (Rachel), Kelsey King (Chris), Anica Gentry (Andrew Cooper), Allison Gentry, Matthew Gentry, and Hunter Gentry (Taylor); 9 great-grandchildren: Louie Julian, Teddy Julian, Sawyer Ann and Gentry Longcrier, Orie King, Kennedy Gentry, Xyla Gentry, Hunter Gentry Jr., and Kai Gentry.

The family would like to offer many thanks to the caregivers at Governor's Bend. They were a very loving family who took the very best care of her.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Nancy DeArmond Gentry in a memorial service to be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Erwin Presbyterian Church. Reverend Rick Raum will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 11:30 am on Friday and will continue until service time at Erwin Presbyterian Church. A graveside committal service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery following the memorial service on Friday. Those attending the committal service should meet at Erwin Presbyterian Church by 12:30 pm to go in procession to the cemetery.
