JOHNSON CITY - Melva Doris Simerly King, 83, Johnson City, took her Savior's hand and left this earth before the sun came up Sunday morning October 12, 2025. She had to make it to the early service with her Mom and Dad, Earl "Jay" and Edith Arnett Simerly and her brothers, Allen, Leroy, and Danny were all waiting on her.
She was born during the Second World War on March 11, 1942, in the mountains of East Tennessee. Melva graduated in 1960 from Hampton High School. After taking care of her family, while her husband William Estep was serving in Vietnam, she returned to continue her education and finished head of her nursing class in 1976.
Melva had a lengthy career in nursing that spanned over twenty years in South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. She was known for having a servant's heart and would always help those in need, even if it meant that she had to go without.
Melva left behind, as she called them, " her boys" Billy, Scott, and Andy; grandchildren, Dwayne, Claire, Ada, and Boose; sisters, Jane, Judy, and Jill; brother, Ted; numerous nieces and nephews (Toby Guinn was always her favorite, but he's everyone's favorite) all of whom she loved so very much.
She will be forever missed on this earth by her family and friends.
Melva will be laid to rest in Mountain Home National Cemetery.
