JOHNSON CITY - Maxine W. Ray Poarch, 87, Johnson City, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Lakebridge, A Waters Community.

Maxine was born in Watauga and was a daughter of the late James and Bertha Loudy Ray.

She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, Johnson City. Maxine did not know a stranger. She was an amazing cook. Maxine loved animals, especially her cat.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Poarch; son, Jeff Poarch; brothers, Kenneth Ray and Howard Loudy; sister, Mary Lee Johnson.

Survivors include her daughter, Tonette Osborne; son, Chuck Poarch (Lisa); grandchildren, Whitney Ooten (John) and Weston Hazelhurst (Kassie); great grandchildren, Paisley and Wyatt Ooten, River and Bear Hazelhurst; brother, James R. Ray II; special friend, Judy White; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Maxine will be conducted Monday, February 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff, Rev. Curtis Hurt, and Chaplain Alan Evans, officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be chosen from friends and family.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. till the service hour at the funeral home.

In-lieu-of flowers the family requests donations be made to Washington County Johnson City Animal Center at wcjcanimalshelter.org.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Lakebridge, A Waters Community, for the wonderful care they gave Maxine.
