JONESBOROUGH - Maryland Ruth Holder, 84, Jonesborough passed away peacefully Friday, July 21, 2023 with her family by her side. She was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a daughter of the late Jess and Hazel Baxley Neal. Maryland was a member of the Johnson City Church of God. She loved traveling with her family and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Holder; a daughter, Balissa Holder; two sons, Ty Holder and Kamay Holder; three brothers, Jessie, Sam and James Neal; three sisters, Honey Miller, Wanda Hodges and Sylvia Osborne.
Survivors include a daughter, Terrina Carpenter and husband, Allan of Johnson City; two sons, Randy Holder and wife, Janet of Jonesborough and Denno Holder of Johnson City; a sister, Joan Chaffin of Knoxville; grandchildren, Matthew Holder, Jessica Holder, Brittany Sanders and husband, Brian and Justice Jones and husband, Curtis; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Jones, Rachel Sanders, Macie Sanders and Leland Holder; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Maryland will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor David Dugger officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
