Mary Janette Tyree Webb Peters August, 1940 - September 15, 2024
Mary Janette Tyree Webb Peters, age 84 (and she was proud of that) went to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
Mary was born in August of 1940 in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Noah Howard Tyree and Georgia Geneva Shepherd Kappes. Her birth took place during the aftermath of the flood of 1940 that eliminated the town of Butler.
She was the oldest sister to Dorothy Faye Southern, NC, Judith Ann Antic, CA, Nancy Jesionowski of GA, Tommy Lee Johnson of Johnson City, Frances Marie Gilley of Elizabethton; and fourteen stepbrothers and sisters.
In Mary's late teens she decided East Tennessee wasn't big enough. She married Charles E. Webb, I in 1960 and headed cross country. After much travel they settled in Miami, Florida. There is where she received her cosmetology license. They decided to move back to Elizabethton and had two children. When that relationship ended, she liked most, was a struggling single mother. As fate would have it, she met the love of her life, William Zane Peters and his three children. They decided to tie the knot, so they eloped on March 25, 1975. Their now five children decided they should have a traditional church wedding on June 28, 1975.
Mary's life took her to many places. This allowed her to meet and have a huge impact on so many lives. She worked at Hair Plus in Johnson City for forty-six years. She was a lifelong member of Prayer Tabernacle in Elizabethton where she was a former Ladies Auxiliary President.
She was a former Upper East Tennessee Cosmetology Association President. This led her to be a vital part of "Look Good, Feel Better" working with cancer patients. She was a former artist and instructor with Clairol. Her husband Bill would often be heard saying" She's somewhere twiggin' hair".
Mary leaves behind five children, Kitty Peters Moore of Elizabethton, Charles E. "Cowboy" Webb, II and Wendy Webb Avery both of Johnson City, Jeremy Daniel Peters (Layla Bishop) of the home, and Bill Manwaring, TX; several grandchildren, Rylan Peters, Teddy Avery, Jr., Zane Peters, Zachary Brown, Julia Peters Redding, Jewell Stephanie Peters, Samantha Manwaring, Kristi Moore Gronlund, and Tamrah Moore Vance; four special friends, Vicki Vandeventer, Jona Casteel, Peggy Grindstaff and Linda Wagner; twelve great grandchildren; a slew of nieces, nephews and other family members both blood related and not!
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Zane Peters; one son, Gregory Zane Peters and one son-in-law, Ogden Ralph Moore.
She led a life of service to others and will be truly missed!

My Aunt Mary is another beautiful member of my family, heart and life to go home to the Lord. Today, I reflect on the effect she had on me and my upbringing. I have talked to her recently and looked to her for influence with her faith in God. I wish I could have been there. I love you Aunt Mary. I will see you, again.
