CARTER COUNTY - Mrs. Mary Alice Townsend Mosley, age 95 (DOB 6-2-28) of the Powder Branch Community of Carter County, TN left this earth for her heavenly home on June 15th at her residence following declining health for the past few years.
Mrs. Mosley was the third of nine children born to the late Ernest Robert and Irene Campbell Townsend. She was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County, TN.
Mrs. Mosley was a faithful member of Powder Branch Baptist Church, Johnson City (Carter County) TN where she attended for over 75+ years and was the oldest active member of that church. She served as the Sunday School secretary for 50+ years. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society of the church where she served in various leadership positions of the W.M.U.
Mrs. Mosley was a kind and caring person and had many good friends. She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and canning the items it produced. She liked working in her yard and especially working with her many flowers. Also, one of her favorite hobbies and pastimes included reading various types of books and playing cards.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mosley was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Chase Mosley; 3 sisters, Rhoda Frances Lyons Reeme, Ora Love Wiseman Deadrick, and Virginia Lee Hughes; 3 brothers, Richard Dale Townsend, Ernest Junior Townsend, and Billy Thomas Townsend; also, four nieces, one nephew.
Mrs. Mosley is survived by 2 sisters, Linda Eller Killen of Johnson City and Carolyn Shelley of Maryville, TN; sister-in-law Reba Vance Townsend of Elizabethton and special niece and caregiver, Rachel Ann Townsend of Elizabethton, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mrs. Mosley will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 18th in the Chapel of Peace, Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Gene Cornett officiating. Burial will follow at the Patton-Simmons Cemetery, Toll Branch Road, Johnson City, TN. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
Active pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews, David Townsend, Matthew Townsend, Thomas Townsend, Johnny Townsend, Kirk Hughes, Nick Hughes, Russell Hughes and Jesse Eller. Honorary pallbearers are Bud McKeehan, Richard Steve Lyons, Gary Townsend, Mike Townsend, Jerry Hardin, Jerry Estep, Lee Hubbard, David Hyder, Ora Hyder and her church family.
Mrs. Mosley requested that in lieu of flowers those who desire, make memorial contributions in her memory to the Women's Missionary Society of Powder Branch Baptist Church, 1710 Powder Branch Road, Johnson City, TN 37601
