ERWIN - Mary Susan Mask Hensley, age 65, of Erwin, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 04, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee to the late John "Jack" Mask and Peggy Hodgson Mask.
Susan earned her RN Degree from Belmont University, and she earned her B.S. degree in Nursing from Union University. She retired from Unicoi County Memorial Hospital where she worked as a Registered Nurse for many years. Susan also volunteered as a caregiver. Her passion was taking care of others.
Susan was a member of Mountain Dale Freewill Baptist Church. She absolutely loved living in the Spivey Mountain Community. Susan enjoyed crafting, gardening, reading, and helping others.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her husband Boyd Hensley on May 12, 2010, and one brother, John Mask, Jr.
Susan leaves behind to cherish her memory, one sister, Anne Curtze (David) of Murfreesboro; Godsister, Pat Coble (Don); sister-in-law, Sonja Hensley Hoilman; nieces: Mary Caroline Reddish (Cade) and Abigale Curtze; nephews: John Carlen "Trey" Mask, III (Megan) and Cole Curtze; special friends: Mountain Dale Freewill Baptist Church, Angel McCurry (Randy White), Jason and Kristen Foster, Gwen Davis, Evelyn and Terry King, Pastor Tommy Hensley, Valerie and Barry Goss, Everette Hughes, Robert Hughes, Heidi Hensley, Becky Allen, Dr. Laura Cox, and a multitude of other family and friends; several other nieces and nephews also survive.
Susan's family will receive friends on Saturday, July 08, 2023, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Tommy Hensley will officiate the 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in the Hensley Family Cemetery, Spivey Mountain Community. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Susan to: Mountain Dale Freewill Baptist Church, 102 Little Bald Creek Road, Erwin, TN 37650 or Unicoi County Animal Shelter, 185 N. Industrial Drive, Erwin, TN 37650.
