Mary Evelyn (Blevins) Greene, age 80, of the Bumpus Cove Community, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025. A native of Lexington, NC, Mary is a daughter of the late David Solomon and Evelyn May (Miller) Blevins. She was of the Baptist faith and served with her husband in ministry for more than 50 years. She was a member of Cherokee Community Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Reverend Shelby Eugene "Red" Greene; her daughter, Melissa Greene; son, Roger Greene; grandson, Austin Peters; brothers: David Blevins, Bill Blevins, Vernon Blevins, Roger Blevins, and Phillip Blevins; and one sister, Donna Phillips.
Mary Evelyn (Blevins) Greene has left behind to cherish her memory: daughters, Angela Greene and Brandy Greene; sons: Timothy Greene (Geraldine), Josh Greene, and Chris Greene; grandchildren: Kim Wainscott (Shawn), Miranda Lane, Rusty Greene, Ashley Greene, and Kim Dunbar; great grandchildren: Brayden Greene, Brentley Greene, Hunter Peters, Trenton Wainscott, Sebastian Cook, Kateline Boyd, Cody Belt, R. J. Dunbar, and Destiny Dunbar; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Caris Hospice, and to Patricia Roark, Tommy Roark, Landon Roark and her caregiver, Kimberly Wainscott, for all of your loving care and support during this difficult time.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Mary Evelyn (Blevins) Greene in a funeral service to be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Cherokee Community Freewill Baptist Church, 479 Bill Bennett Road, Johnson City, TN 37604. Reverend David Montgomery, Reverend David Greene, and Reverend Dennis Greene will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by family and friends. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 1:00 pm on Wednesday and will continue until service time. A graveside committal service will be held following the service, in Cherokee Community Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected among family and friends.
