Mary Austin Obituary

Mary Ruth Austin

April 14, 1943 -

May 5, 2025

Mary Ruth Austin was born on April 14, 1943, to the late Robert and Gladys Parker of Jonesboro, Tennessee and passed on to her heavenly home on May 5, 2025. She was 82.

Mary was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who believed in the power of prayer. She was an engaging person who never met a stranger. Mary had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed learning, and she instilled her curious nature in others.

Mary was a graduate of Jonesborough High School, class of 1961 and completed her initial medical training in Asheville, North Carolina. She moved to Florida in 1963 and began working in the medical profession, eventually becoming a medical technologist. Mary found her work challenging and rewarding and her colleagues were very meaningful to her. She retired from the A.G. Holley State Hospital laboratory in Lantana, Florida.

Mary is survived by her husband Warren R. Austin; her children Carolann Austin Swanson (Steven Hubbard) and Michael P. Austin; her grandchildren Abigail Austin, Anna Austin, Allison Austin, Andrew Austin, Ashlyn Austin, Charlotte Pae Swanson, and Lillian Swanson; and her great-grandchild Amer Shriteh. Mary was blessed to have bonus grandchildren Jessa Swanson Drummond, Lauren Swanson Geller, Adrianne Swanson Snyder, Patrick Hubbard, Jackson Hubbard, and Megan Hubbard.

Mary is also survived by her beloved sister V. Judy Bacon; her brother-in-law Norman Austin; and her sisters-in-law Sue Austin, Jeanette Roberts, and Belinda Parker. Her siblings Carl Parker, Robert Parker, Jean Gosnell, and John A. Parker predeceased her.

Mary leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

Mary was devoted to her friends, neighbors, and caregivers. Her family is forever grateful to her caregivers and friends who were so supportive through the years. Although she moved to Palm Beach County over 60 years ago, Mary missed her home and family in Jonesborough, and it is fitting that she will be laid to eternal rest in Washington County, Tennessee.

Services to honor the life of Mary Ruth Austin will be at Washington County Memory Garden on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 am.

A reception will be held in Mary's honor in Wellington, Florida at a future date.
