GRAY - Martha Joan Dunn VanHuss, known to all as Joan, 77, of Gray, TN, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2023, in Johnson City, TN after a brief illness. Born in the same city on April 25, 1946, to the late John Spurgeon and Mary Phillips Dunn, Joan was a fixture in her community and will be greatly missed.
Joan graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Throughout her career, she held various roles within the field of education and made a significant impact on countless young lives. Her dedication to her work and the countless students she influenced resonate within Johnson City.
Joan was a devout Baptist, and her abiding faith carried her throughout her life. In her spare time, she found joy in numerous hobbies, including reading and spending cherished moments with her grandchildren. Her attributes of love, kindness, and friendliness were recognized by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Wayne VanHuss. She is survived by her daughter, Angelia Alley (Brad), grandchildren Viktoria and Ryne Alley, all of Gray, TN, her brother Eoin Stewart (Jenny) of Texas, her special niece Vivien Dunn of Johnson City, and several other nieces and nephews.
Even though we are deeply saddened by Joan's passing, we will remember her fondly as a loving family member, a dedicated educator, and a friendly face in her community. Joan is meant to be remembered for her love, empathy, and radiant personality. She will always be in our hearts.
