CARY, NC - Mark Anthony Tipton, age 59, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023, in Cary, NC. He was a 1982 graduate of Science Hill High School, Johnson City, TN. After receiving his business administration degree from East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Mark worked in healthcare administration at Research Triangle Park in Durham, NC for 26 years.
Mark was a member of First Baptist Church of Cary for 25 years, where he was a Sunday school teacher and active participant in the church community. He was also an avid guitar player, a music lover, and enjoyed cycling and basketball. His appreciation of good pizza was unsurpassed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jean Tipton. Mark is survived by wife Phyllis Tipton and daughter Angela Tipton, both of Cary; father Tony Tipton, Jonesborough, TN; brother Todd Tipton (Cindy), Elizabethton, TN; and nephew John Tipton, Johnson City. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles. Mark deeply loved his daughter and was so very proud of her. He was able to visit her in Paris shortly before his passing and was able to see where she would be going to graduate school at Sorbonne. He was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Mark will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, September 2, at First Baptist Church of Cary, NC. Graveside services will be held at 12pm Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Roselawn Memory Gardens, Johnson City, TN.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be forwarded to the Boys & Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County.
