JOHNSON CITY - Marie Annette Ray, age 69, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Princeton Transitional Care in Johnson City. A native of Detroit, MI, Marie is the daughter of the late Robert Lyons and Opal Miller Lyons. She worked as a teacher, nurse and police officer. Marie was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed watching Tennessee football, playing softball and coffee or meals with friends and family.
Marie Ray has left behind to cherish her memory: husband, Scott Ray; son, Evan Ray and wife Jennifer; grandchildren: Christal, Christopher and Christina; several cousins.
The family requests your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Marie Annette Ray in a Celebration of her Life to be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 22, 2023 in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Tim Tapp will officiate. A visitation period to offer support and share memories with the family will begin at 5:00 pm and continue until service time on Thursday.
The family would like to offer their gratitude to Amedisys Hospice for their love and care during a difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Marie's name to the Unicoi County Animal Shelter at 185 N Industrial Dr, Erwin, TN 37650.

It will two years June the 1st since marie pass away I miss as talking on the phone, sitting on the front porch laughing and cutting the we did I miss her so she was a very special friend I will always cherish are time together.

Marie was my dear friend. We enjoyed many hours of talks and laughs whether sitting on the porch, talking on the phone or working around her house. I loved our time together and I will miss her so much.
