KINGSPORT - Marie H. Jennings, 96, of Kingsport passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Marie was born in Ft. Blackmore, VA. She graduated as valedictorian in 1945 from Rye Cove Memorial High School and came to Kingsport in 1946. She was also a graduate of Whitney School of Business. Marie worked as a bookkeeper for Kingsport Electric for 31 ½ years, and later she worked as an office clerk for Franklin Printing Company for 18 years. In later years, she explored her skill in writing and published a couple of books. She was a member of The American Legion Auxiliary and Homeland Baptist Church.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Friel V. Jennings in October of 2003; parents, Callaway Thomas and Wanda Mae Fletcher Hall; sisters, Nannie Faye Hall and Lois McDavid.
Survivors include her daughter, Myra Gerlock and husband, Dr. Gregory Gerlock; son, Jeffrey Jennings and wife, Risa; grandchildren, Lindsey Waters and husband, John, Grace Boerma and husband, Ben, Hannah Gerlock, Claire Gerlock and Alan Gerlock; great-granddaughters, Clarie Boerma and Faye Waters; great-grandson, Bo Boerma; and special friends, Rives Deaton and Stuart Nanney.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Keith Cook, Dr. Phillip Riley, and Dr. Mark McCommons with State of Franklin Healthcare Associates. Special thanks also to the nursing and auxiliary staff at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Tommy Hopson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 10:00am at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Isaiah 117 House, P.O. Box 842, Elizabethton, TN 37643.

Marie was such a special, sweet, inspirational person whom I enjoyed knowing. We had some good visits a few times with good memories to share from our growing up years in Stanleytown. Her family and friends have my deepest sympathy.
