ERWIN - Margery Joan Hicks, age 99, of Erwin, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at her home, with her son by her side. She was the daughter of the late Hannah and Joseph Adams. She was born in Bloxwich, England on March 8, 1925. During WWII, Joan met and married a United States soldier, Rhea Gordon Hicks. She came to Erwin in 1945. She was a homemaker and an active member of First Christian Church for many years, until her health precluded her attendance. Joan was a member of the Brides Club, Criterion Book Club, and Wednesday Club. She volunteered at Contact Ministries. Joan was an avid gardener, reader, and expert knitter. People loved to hear her speak, as she never lost her English accent. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe and Jim; sisters, Lillian and Ivy; and her husband, Rhea Gordon Hicks, who passed away in 1990.
Margery Joan Hicks has left behind to cherish her memory: son, Ron Hicks; numerous nephews, notably, Larry and Bill Garland and Robert Noon; several nieces; special friend, Gail Thompson; and many other friends. She will be missed terribly.
The family would like to offer many thanks to Gertha Laws, Wanda Farley and Rachel Smith, who lovingly cared for her.
