Margarett Mahaffey Obituary

JOHNSON CITY - Margarett White Mahaffey, 84, Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the Beverly Park Place Heath and Rehab, Knoxville, after a lengthy illness.

Margarett was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Charles and Hildred Osborne White.

Margarett was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Elizabethton. She was involved in Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the choir at her church. Margarett was a loving mother and a caretaker to many over the years.

In addition to her parents, Margarett was preceded in death by her husband, Danny W. Mahaffey; daughters, Patricia White, Elizabeth Bryant; son, Sherman White, sisters, Lois Trivett Hughes, Pat White, Donna Campbell; brother, Harold White.

Survivors include a daughter, Tina Ray (David) of Houston, TX; son, William Mahaffey (Jessica Shipp) of Knoxville; sisters, Tresia Hill of Telford, Charlotte Miller (Joe) of Roan Mountain, Judy Fenley (Mike) of Luling, TX; 3 grandchildren, Maxx, Rebekka, and Michael Ray; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Ron, Valarie, Shelia, and Betty.

The funeral service for Margarett will be conducted Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 12:30 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Pastor Terry Jones and Pastor Nathan Jennings, officiating. Special music by Ron Barnett and Valarie Swartz. The graveside committal service will follow in Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Site).

The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M.-12:30 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
