JONESBOROUGH - Marcella Greer Bennett, age 82, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her loved ones at home on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
A lifelong resident of Washington County, Marcella was born on October 29, 1941, to the late William Howard Greer and Ruth Barnett Greer. She graduated from Science Hill High School in 1959, and she went on to earn her nursing degree. She served as a nurse until her retirement in 2003. She married the love of her life, James Bennett, on July 11, 1962.
She was a member of Cherokee Church of Christ, where she and James were members for almost 50 years.
She loved to bake and cook. She was an excellent fiddle player; she played the fiddle in a band when she was younger. She volunteered as a nurse at High Rock Bible Camp in Virginia for many years. She and James enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Canada. Marcella will forever be remembered for her genuine care, concern, and kindness for others. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Greer.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, James; children, Diane (Alan) Arnold and Jimmy (Rachel) Bennett; grandchildren, Chandler Bennett and Isabella Bennett (fiance, Justin McCurry); and special cousin, Sarah Mae Redding.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Amedisys Hospice, especially Nora, Logan, Crystal, Priscilla, and Weatherly, for their care and support. Gratitude is also extended to Amy McCurry for her loving care.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Cherokee Church of Christ (1421 Cherokee Road, Johnson City), followed by a funeral at 7:00 pm. A committal service will commence the following day, Friday, March 29, at 2:00 pm at Happy Valley Memorial Park in the mausoleum chapel. Please meet at the cemetery by 1:50 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marcella's honor are directed to Cherokee Church of Christ.
