Mack Hollaway Obituary

Mack Douglas Hollaway

November 14, 1942 -

February 2, 2025

BUTLER - Mack Douglas Hollaway, 82, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, as the sun set on a life well lived. He was born on November 14, 1942, to the late France and Elsie Hollaway.

Mack dedicated his career to the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, serving his community with kindness and a familiar smile. A man of deep faith, he shared the love of Christ through his voice as a member of a gospel quartet and as the longtime choir member / director at Sugar Grove Baptist Church where he also served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon, always leading with a servant's heart.

A 1961 graduate of Johnson County High School, Mack had a lifelong love for basketball, whether watching the game or officiating on the court. He was a dedicated and skilled farmer who took great pride in working the land, cultivating abundant harvests, and generously sharing the fruits of his labor with his loved ones and friends. A true outdoorsman, he found great joy in hunting and fishing.

Mack is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Linda Hollaway; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kim Hollaway; grandchildren Brandon (Caroline) Hollaway and Britney (Logan) Burleson; and great-grandchildren Jaxson (9) and Mack (5) Hollaway, Callie (7), Henley (7), Roan (4), and Laurel (1) Burleson. He was preceded in death by his parents, France and Elsie Hollaway, and his brother, William Earnest "Boose" Hollaway.

We believe that as Mack entered his heavenly home, God welcomed him with the words from Matthew 25:23: "Well done, good and faithful servant..."

Services will be held at Sugar Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Receiving of friends will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 4:00 p.m. with Bro. Brian Hollaway, Dr. Don Winters and Rev. Ray Greene officiating. A graveside service will follow immediately after. Pallbearers will be Brandon Hollaway, Logan Burleson, R.E. Brown, Dr. Steve Owens, Doyle Tester, David Fletcher, Jim Greenwell and Emery Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack's great grandchildren: Jaxon Hollaway, Mack Hollaway, Henley Burleson and Roan Burleson, Dr. Jim Wilson and Craig Tester.

All are welcome to join the community choir as they celebrate the Lord through song in honor of Mack's life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Music Ministry in Mack's memory.

In loving memory of a lifelong friend. We attended the same church, sang in a quartet together, sang in a choir together and our families were very close friends. Heaven has certainly gained a loving soul. My condolences to you Linda, Brian and family. Novella McGuire Tester.
