Lynn Pennington Obituary

JONESBOROUGH - Lynn Tucker Pennington, a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on the evening of July 12, 2023, at the age of 77. Lynn's unwavering spirit and compassionate nature touched the lives of all who knew her.

Born on February 26, 1946, at Lady Ann Hospital in Livingston, Tennessee, Lynn was the beloved daughter of Reverend Evie Tucker and Thomas Ada Hankins Tucker, both of whom preceded her in death. Lynn was also preceded in death by her sisters Beryl Little, Elizabeth Twyman, Esther Creaseman, and Sarah May Hawkins, as well as her brothers Hearly Tucker and Charlie George Tucker.

Lynn's thirst for knowledge led her to graduate from Livingston Academy in 1964 as Salutatorian of her class. She further pursued her passion for learning and creativity by earning a degree from Carson Newman College in 1968, majoring in Art and minoring in English.

Throughout her life, Lynn exemplified a servant's heart, dedicating herself to her work and personal relationships. She made a positive impact through her roles at the Johnson City Medical Center in the Social Work Department, Fresenius Kidney Care, and the Area Agency on Aging and Disability, where she retired, all in Johnson City, Tennessee.

A devoted member of Central Baptist Church, Lynn actively participated in various church activities. She found joy in teaching the Ethel Rigel Sunday School class and relished the camaraderie of the Knitting and Things group on Wednesdays. For many years, Lynn served as a teacher and director for Girls in Action, leaving a lasting impression on young hearts.

Lynn had a deep love for literature, particularly as a Bible scholar and a fervent admirer of C.S. Lewis. Her artistic talents shone through her brushstrokes, as she adorned her canvases with vibrant colors, mirroring the beauty of her perennial flower beds. Lynn's dedication to the arts extended to her involvement with the Watauga Valley Art League, where she shared her passion with like-minded individuals.

Animals held a special place in Lynn's heart, evident in her adoration for Chrome, the famous Thoroughbred racing horse. She also showered affection on her two beloved kitties, Dixie and Oliver. Lynn's compassionate spirit extended to all creatures, embodying a boundless kindness that made her a friend beyond measure.

Lynn is survived by her son, Jamie Pennington, of Massachusetts, along with his wife Jessica, their daughter Maggie, and son Tommy. She is also survived by her daughter, Kat Imara, of California. Lynn leaves behind numerous dear nieces and nephews, including Steven Hawkins, Tracy Hawkins, and cherished cousins Kenny Little (Ruthie), Mark Tucker (Tina), and Sherry Wilson. Lynn also treasured her friendship with her dear friends Mar and Charlie Carter. She always felt that her life was better for having the support and friendship of these dear friends. Their love, joy and kindness meant everything to her. She also could not have asked for better neighbors and friends who watched over her and cherished her. She was often heard to say that she had hit the friendship lottery with her next-door neighbor Michael (Mic) Martin who took especially good care of her.

A Celebration of Life service in honor of Lynn Pennington will be held on Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m. at Central Baptist Church, located at 300 N. Roan St., Johnson City, with Dr. Tommy Hood, officiating. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. at the church.

Interment will take place at 3:00 p.m. CDT at Good Hope Cemetery in Livingston, Tennessee.

Arrangements are under the compassionate care of Speck Funeral Home, Livingston, and Appalachian Funeral Home, Johnson City. Lynn's legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on through the memories and the love she shared with all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lynn's memory to Central Baptist Church, 300 N. Roan Street, Johnson City, Tennessee.

Lynn and I have been family and friends since I was in her wedding over 50 years ago. I am so sorry to hear, after the fact, that she was taken from us. I would have loved to share with her family and friends a celebration of her colorful and talented life. Lynn, my friend, I will miss you.

I Worked with and shared an office with Lynn at JCMC about 30 years ago. We stayed in touch and I loved her dearly. She donated blood for my daughter, Aly, who had to have her first open heart surgery at age 20 months, in 1993. So my daughter carries Lynn´s blood in her veins. That´s the kind of person Lynn was, always giving to others, always kind, so special. May God hold her close in His arms.

I will miss Lynn dearly. She was always kind and loving towards me. She shared her talents of knitting with me and helped me learn. She was ready with a good tight hug when I needed one.
