Luther David Hartley

JOHNSON CITY - Luther David Hartley, 76 of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

Luther was the son of the late Thomas and Bertha Hartley. Luther attended True Gospel Free Will Baptist Church. He was a carpenter who took great pride in his work, and was the happiest when he was busy. Luther was employed by Mount Castle for 25 years, he spent 20 years remodeling houses with Wayne Gouge, and another 15 years employed by David McKee. Luther was the handy man that the whole family would turn to when they needed help. He always looked forward to seeing his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Luther was preceded in death by 5 brothers; Clyde, Carl, Paul, Dallas, and Charlie Hartley; and a sister, Maude Muncey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Kathy (Self) Hartley; sisters, Helen Odom, Iva Lee Copas, and Ruby Beckett; Children, Matthew (Kella) Hartley of Johnson City, David (Joni) Hartley of Johnson City, and Melinda (Shannon) Malone of Johnson City; grandchildren, Jaden, Tyler, Blake, and Sadie Hartley, and Lakota Malone; As well as a host of other family members.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025 at 7:00pm in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Pastor Richard Sheppard Jr. and Pastor Josh Hinkle officiating.

A visitation period will begin at 5:00 pm in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral home and will continue until the service hour.

A graveside committal service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, 11:00 am in the Mausoleum Chapel of Washington County Memory Gardens, 113 Memory Gardens Road, Johnson City, TN 37615. For those attending the service please meet at the Cemetery at 10:50am.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to David McKee for always being there and being a great friend to Luther.

So sorry to hear about the loss of Luther he was a good fellow dad always talked about him and Luther running around together when they were younger

Sending our prayers and thoughts for Kathy the kids grandkids and family Luther was such a wonderful man he will be missed so glad I got to see him one last time in November. Love April and Chris
