ELIZABETHTON - Linda Gail Hopson Arney, 75, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in the Bristol Hospital after an extended illness. She was born July 23, 1948 in Elizabethton to the late John Henry & Veryl Norris Hopson. She was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University with a degree in Education. Linda was a retired schoolteacher, having taught at Cloudland & Valley Forge Elementary Schools for 34 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Arney who passed away October 26, 2006. Linda worshiped at the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Young at Heart Sunday School Class. She loved to read, crochet, cook and go camping.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Arney; one grandson & wife, Brandon & Brie Arney of Johnson City; one sister, Clara Ingram & husband Tom, Elizabethton; one brother, John Hopson & wife Katrina of Elizabethton and several nieces & nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 23, 2023 with Pastor Randy Johnson, Pastor Mark Potter and Mr. Glen Layfield, Minister, officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Brandon Arney, Chase Moffett, Lester Rainbolt, Scott Odom, Todd Hampton, Jerry Warner, TY Adkins, Alex Reed and Blake Hopson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Young at Heart Sunday School Class, Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of ICU, Holston Valley Hospital, the staff of Bristol Select Hospital and all her family and friends who have been so faithful in helping in any way and praying for her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church Young at Heart Sunday School Class, 1503 Riverview Drive, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
